I really enjoyed reading both of your books but I think that that this website is fantastic. I wish that I had been aware if it before as the photographs contribute so much. It must have taken you a while to collect these pictures. I used to teach Russian History from 1905 – 1924 to secondary school pupils and finding photographs has always been hard.
Do you speak Russian? I will now need to buy both books and read them again but with the photographs available to gain a deeper appreciation.

Thanks for this – it’s great to hear people are enjoying it. It needs quite a bit of work but I’m hoping to get round to that in the next month or so once the third book is finished – with a bit of luck it will be even better then!
All the best

Your stories are interesting, beliveable and realistic. I believe you have captured the essence of outstanding espionage/crime novels in that they are both possible and plausible.
Great to hear from you and thanks for the kind words (always very nice to hear praise on a rainy London morning). Delighted you’re enjoying them and thanks very much for getting in touch.

My greatest disappointment, having just finished The Twelfth Department is that I must now wait some considerable time for you to write and publish a new Korolev book.
I have read all three, each gets better than the previous one. You have captured the time period perfectly and the dreadful terror that took place then is vividly captured in your books.
Thank you so much for giving me such pleasure. Wonderful books.
I have sent them to my mother who is still an avid reader of crime stories.
when may we expect another Korolev book?
Great to hear from you and delighted you and delighted you enjoyed the books – hope your mother does too. The next Korolev novel isn’t out until 2016, which seems like a very long time away – but there will be a standalone novel in the meantime, hopefully to be published next May. It’s set in another grim time – the end of the Nazi regime in early 1945 – but I’m hoping it’s going to turn out quite well. Fingers crossed anyway.
I look forwards to it Bill, It is another fascinating time of which I read a lot about. Mainly non-fiction, so it will be a pleasure to have a story by you set in this time.
From the look of your photo, I may be almost twice your age – so –
write faster. (only a joke!)
Now there’s pressure!
